Knobelsdorff Takes Home Top Eagle Award

(Goodhue, Minn.) February 15, 2024 – Knobelsdorff was once again awarded the top award through the Associated Builders and Contractors' Excellence in Construction (EIC) annual banquet, adding to an already impressive resume, winning the top Eagle Award for Electrical: Industrial Construction over $1 Million for work completed at Shell Rock Soy Processing Plant in Shell Rock, IA.

The firm had been honored by ABC already this year, winning the ABC 2023 MN/ND Diamond Step Award for their dedication to safety, AQC recertification, and the ABC 2023 Top Performing US Construction Company award.

The Associated Builders and Contractors Awards of Excellence Program have become the premier competition within the construction industry that recognizes outstanding construction projects across the nation. Excellence in Construction is a program that began at the MN/ND Chapter 28 years ago for Minnesota and North Dakota contractors and allows members the ability to compete with contractors across the nation.

Shell Rock Soy Processing Plant processes soybeans to manufacture soy oil for sustainable fuel production, as well as manufacturing soybean meal and soyhull pellets. The facility annually crushes nearly 40M bushels of soybeans and is expected to produce 463 million pounds of crude soybean oil to be sold to refiners across the US to process for use by food processors and the biodiesel markets. As the project’s electrical contractor, Knobelsdorff (KE) provided electrical design support, project management services, provided installation of electrical components and commissioning services, and start-up support of the facility process. Specifically:   

  • MCC’s and motors  
  • Automation and controls  
  • General receptacles and lighting  
  • Testing and commissioning of MV cables, switchgear, and transformers
