Knobelsdorff Electric Earns National Construction Safety Designation For 2015

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) today announced that Knobelsdorff Electric has achieved the Platinum level of ABC’s prestigious Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) for 2015.

STEP recognition is divided into six distinct achievement levels—Participant, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. Each level requires certain self-evaluation and performance metrics to be met in order to be recognized. STEP Gold, Platinum and Diamond levels require all recipients to maintain Total Recordable Incidence Rates (TRIR) equal to or less than the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) average TRIR for each of the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes for the construction industry.

“It is an honor to be able to recognize Knobelsdorff Electric for their STEP achievement,” said ABC President and CEO Michael Bellaman. “Companies that participate in STEP carry the mindset that every incident is preventable and have committed themselves to world-class safety performance. As a company proceeds through the STEP levels, they are continuously evaluating and strengthening their safety and health programs through their leadership’s commitment to safety. This cultural transformation results in safety becoming a companywide core value, and the implementation of the systems and processes necessary to prevent incidents before they occur.”

STEP was established in 1989 by the ABC National Environment, Health & Safety Committee to assist ABC member contractors in evaluating and improving corporate safety practices and recognize outstanding safety training efforts. Each year, over 2,000 contractors of various sizes participate in the STEP program.
