The Situation

US Solar sought a capable partner to support their first-ever installation of a utility-scale solar array integrated with an AC-coupled Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project required expertise in both renewable generation and energy storage systems. With a long-term power purchaser already identified—Missouri River Energy Services (MRES), the success of this initial installation was critical to building confidence in the technology, process, and partnership model. The goal was clear: deliver a high-performing renewable energy site, from design review through final commissioning, with minimal handoffs and full accountability.

The Solution

Knobelsdorff assembled a cross-divisional team from its Energy and Power Services divisions to take the project from engineering review to final commissioning. This integrated approach ensured seamless coordination across every stage of execution. Highlights of the work performed include:

Engineering and Planning

Conducted a collaborative engineering review in coordination with US Solar and Eneon, the BESS manufacturer, to ensure system compatibility and reliability from the outset.

Solar Installation

Delivered all critical phases of the solar scope including civil preparation, pile driving, underground electrical, racking, module placement, and full DC and AC wiring.
Managed and coordinated subcontractors to support civil and pile driving activities, maintaining schedule alignment and quality expectations.

BESS Installation and Commissioning

KE Power Services worked alongside Eneon and US Solar to integrate and commission the AC-coupled BESS, ensuring full system operability and site safety compliance.
Provided final commissioning support and validation for both solar and storage systems, delivering a complete energy solution under one roof.

Based on the performance and execution of the Marshall project, MRES has since brought forward another development opportunity to US Solar—who then selected Knobelsdorff to perform
the installation.
